Allemand Das Spiel ist in vier Episoden aufgeteilt, die jeweils in einem anderen Teil der Militärbasis beginnen. Am Ende dieser relativ einfachen Start-Level befinden sich Teleporter, die einen in eine fremdartige Dimension bringen, in welcher der Rest der jeweiligen Episode spielt. Innerhalb der Level müssen neben den Kämpfen verschiedene Schlüssel- und Schalterrätsel gelöst werden, der Spieler muss Fallen entkommen und allgemein in dem oft verwinkelten Aufbau den richtigen Weg finden. In jedem Spielabschnitt sind mehrere geheime Räume versteckt, und für jede Episode gibt es einen vollständigen Geheimlevel, dessen Zugang erst vom Spieler entdeckt werden muss. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad steigt in den folgenden Levels allgemein an (besser verborgene Fallen, Gegner werden kampfstärker und zahlreicher). Die Episoden enden jeweils mit einem besonders herausfordernden Kampf, teilweise auch gegen einen Endgegner. Am Ende des Spiels muss die Wesenheit Shub-Niggurath besiegt werden.

Anglais An enemy with the codename ''Quake'', which is believed to come from another dimension, is using teleporter gates to invade Earth. The player takes the role of a nameless soldier who arrives at his base only to find out Quake has overrun it and killed everyone. Somewhere in the base, there must be a teleporter to Quake's realm. The mission is clear: take the fight to the enemy, overcome countless hordes of monsters, and exact revenge.

id Software's follow-up to Doom and Doom II, Quake is a first-person shooter. Its main technological innovation is the use of a true 3D engine - the levels themselves, as well as the enemies, are polygonal. This not only allows for more natural level-designs and character animations, but also for more realistic lighting and the inclusion of simulated physics that have an effect on gameplay: grenades can bounce off walls and around corners, for example.

Français Un ennemi portant le nom de code « Quake », qui viendrait d'une autre dimension, utilise des portails de téléportation pour envahir la Terre. Le joueur incarne un soldat sans nom qui arrive à sa base pour découvrir que Quake l'a envahie et a tué tout le monde. Quelque part dans la base, il doit y avoir un téléporteur vers le royaume de Quake. La mission est claire : affronter l'ennemi, vaincre d'innombrables hordes de monstres et se venger.

Suite de Doom et Doom II, Quake est un jeu de tir à la première personne créé par id Software. Sa principale innovation technologique est l'utilisation d'un véritable moteur 3D - les niveaux eux-mêmes, ainsi que les ennemis, sont polygonaux. Cela permet non seulement des conceptions de niveaux et des animations de personnages plus naturelles, mais aussi un éclairage plus réaliste et l'inclusion d'une physique simulée qui a un effet sur le gameplay : les grenades peuvent rebondir sur les murs et dans les coins, par exemple.

Portugais Em Quake, o jogador assume o papel do protagonista conhecido como Ranger, que foi enviado a um portal para impedir um inimigo de codinome "Quake". O governo estava fazendo experiências com tecnologia de teletransporte e desenvolveu um protótipo funcional chamado "Slipgate"; o misterioso terremoto comprometeu o Slipgate conectando-o com seu próprio sistema de teletransporte, usando-o para enviar esquadrões da morte para a dimensão "Humana", a fim de testar as capacidades marciais da humanidade.

O único protagonista sobrevivente em "Operação Counterstrike" é Ranger, que deve avançar, começando cada um dos quatro episódios de uma base militar humana invadida, antes de lutar para chegar a outras dimensões, alcançando-as através do Slipgate ou seu equivalente no outro mundo. Depois de passar pelo Slipgate, o objetivo principal do Ranger é coletar quatro runas mágicas de quatro dimensões de Quake; estes são a chave para deter o inimigo posteriormente descoberto como Shub-Niggurath e acabar com a invasão da Terra.
