Allemand Ultima III - Exodus ist das dritte Spiel der Serie. Es wurde 1983 veröffentlicht und war das erste Spiel, welches von Richard Garriotts Firma Origin Systems herausgegeben wurde. Wie alle frühen Spiele der Ultima Serie erschien Ultima III zunächst für den Apple II, wurde aber später auf weitere Plattformen portiert.

Nachdem Ultima II auf der Erde spielte, führt Ultima III den Spieler wieder nach Sosaria, welches aber anders aussieht, als im ersten Spiel. Für Ultima I hatte Garriott die Karte seiner alten D&D Welt genommen, dort Flüsse hineingezeichnet und das Ganze in vier Landmassen zerschnitten. Die vier Karten von Ultima I sind daher nur Transformationen und Drehungen der ursprünglichen Karte, welche auch in Ultima III verwendet wird.

It also had large, detailed towns with many people to talk to, and a separate combat engine where your party fought multiple monsters in a turn-based tile-based system.
After the defeat of the evil wizard Mondain and his mistress Minax in the previous two Ultimas, peace has returned to the land of Sorsaria. Times passes and eventually geological disruptions and a resurgence of the monster populace occur, and it is soon learned that Mondain and Minax had conceived a child named "Exodus" before their death. Now that child has become an adult with the power to avenge the death of his parents. Obviously, it falls upon you the hero to find and stop him.

También tenía ciudades grandes y detalladas con muchas personas con las que hablar, y un motor de combate separado donde tu grupo luchó contra múltiples monstruos en un sistema basado en turnos.
Después de la derrota del malvado mago Mondain y su amante Minax en las dos Ultimas, la paz ha regresado a la tierra de Sorsaria. Aveva anche città grandi e dettagliate con molte persone con cui parlare e un motore di combattimento separato in cui il tuo gruppo ha combattuto più mostri in un sistema basato su tessere a turni.
Dopo la sconfitta del mago malvagio Mondain e della sua amante Minax nelle due Ultimas precedenti, la pace è tornata nella terra di Sorsaria. Il tempo passa e alla fine si verificano interruzioni geologiche e una rinascita della popolazione dei mostri, e si scopre presto che Mondain e Minax avevano concepito un bambino di nome "Exodus" prima della loro morte. Ora quel bambino è diventato un adulto con il potere di vendicare la morte dei suoi genitori. Ovviamente, spetta a te l'eroe trovarlo e fermarlo.

No processo de tradução do título do computador original para o novo formato da Nintendo, os programadores simplificaram a mecânica e a interação do jogo, preservando a integridade e a complexidade que fizeram do Ultima uma sensação nos jogos. Também possui a distinção de ser o primeiro carrinho de terceiros equipado com um backup de memória da bateria (seguindo Zelda e Link ).
