ZorkQuest: The Crystal of Doom is a direct sequel to Assault on Egreth Castle. The gameplay system is identical to that of its predecessor, retaining the player's ability to either follow the narrative from a single character's point of view, or ''jump'' to a new character. Thus, the player is able to re-read the story and learn new things about how the characters' different paths affected each other, as well as the outcome of the entire story.

ZorkQuest: The Crystal of Doom est la suite directe de Assault on Egreth Castle. Le système de jeu est identique à celui de son prédécesseur, conservant la possibilité pour le joueur de suivre le récit du point de vue d'un seul personnage ou de « passer » à un nouveau personnage. Ainsi, le joueur peut relire l'histoire et découvrir de nouveaux éléments sur la manière dont les différents chemins empruntés par les personnages se sont influencés mutuellement, ainsi que sur l'issue de l'histoire dans son ensemble.
