Anglais After the Principality of Zeon ("Zion" in early transliterations) was defeated by the Earth Federation, some of its members retreated into space, preparing for a large-scale invasion. The moment came when the Federation became weakened after the Gryps War. The Neo-Zeon sent its army onto the Earth, seizing a location in Africa thanks to the help of the Principality loyalists who still remained on Earth. The seemingly never-ending war between the Federation and Zeon has entered a new phase.

Return of Zion is a strategy game based on the anime franchise Gundam. The player controls the forces of the Earth Federation. The game is mission-based; each mission is shaped as a tactical turn-based battle that takes place on a defined map. The player can choose unit types and formations, position them on the map, and then engage in battle against the opposing force. Units may consist of infantry mechas, tanks, and other kinds of machines.

Français Après la défaite de la Principauté de Zeon face à la Fédération Terrienne, certains de ses membres se sont retirés dans l'espace, préparant une invasion à grande échelle. Le moment est venu lorsque la Fédération s'est affaiblie après la guerre des Gryps. Le Néo-Zéon envoya son armée sur la Terre, s'emparant d'un site en Afrique grâce à l'aide des loyalistes de la Principauté restés sur Terre. La guerre apparemment sans fin entre la Fédération et Zeon est entrée dans une nouvelle phase.
Le joueur contrôle les forces de la Fédération de la Terre. Le jeu est basé sur des missions, chaque mission prend la forme d'une bataille tactique au tour par tour qui se déroule sur une carte définie. Le joueur peut choisir des types d'unités et des formations, les positionner sur la carte, puis engager la bataille contre la force adverse. Les unités peuvent être des méchas d'infanterie, des chars et d'autres types de machines.
