Allemand Castlevania Chronicles ist das europäische und nordamerikanische Re-release des Spiels für Sonys PlayStation. Es erschien 2001 und enthält gerenderte Zwischensequenzen, sowie verbesserte Grafiken. In Japan erschien es unter dem Namen Castlevania Chronicle: Akumaj? Dracula.

Da das Spiel ein Remake ist, ist die Geschichte die selbe wie beim original Castlevania. Simon Belmont zieht aus, um den dunklen Grafen Dracula zu besiegen, der die Gegend terrorisiert.

Da die X68000 Version ein Remake des original Akumaj? Dracula ist, gibt es einige bekannte Elemente, für die, die das Original spielte. Jedoch wurde auch einiges verändert, wie neudesignte Stages, als auch Items, die erst in späteren Spielen vorkamen. Dieses Spiel hat auch einen hohen Schwierigkeitsgrad, den viele Spieler als frustrierend empfinden.

Das Re-release für die PSX fügte noch einiges neues hinzu. Dazu gehören, gerenderte Zwischensequenzen, mit Charakterdesigns von Ayami Kojima (bekannt für ihre Arbeit an Castlevania: Symphony of the Night), ein neues Spritedesign für den Helden, verbesserte Musik, sowie eine besser ausbalanzierten Schwierigkeitsgrad. Spieler können sowohl die neue "Arranged" Version des Spiels spielen, als auch die orginale X68000 Version. Diese Version nennt sich in den westlichen Versionen des Spiels schlicht "Castlevania".

Anglais This Castlevania game was originally released on the Sharp X68000 (a home computer relatively unknown outside of Japan) but never made it to the worldwide audience. This conversion is meant to fix that, a remake of the original for the PlayStation with a good deal of new features.

This game plays very much like any old platform game on the NES (specifically, it plays just like an old Castlevania), you walk slowly forward killing any demonic creature you meet. The game is mostly sideways, though you can jump or walk onto the platforms here and there. The game plays like an old game, but looks like a new one with completely remade 2D graphics, with FMV cutscenes, arranged high quality music and more.

En la noche de Pascua del año 1691 unos monjes oscuros se reunieron en una capilla para a través de un ritual de sangre revivir a Dracula Vlad Tepes, Rey oscuro de Valaquia asesinado 100 años atrás por Christopher Belmont. Simon Belmont, tatara nieto de Soleiyu Belmont (Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge), toma el látigo legendario de su familia y se embarca a Castlevania para destruir al príncipe de las tinieblas y restaurar la paz en Europa.

Français Castlevania Chronicles est un jeu d'action/plates-formes sur Playstation. Le titre est réparti sur 8 niveaux tous partagés en 3 séquences. Toujours avec Simon Belmont, vous pouvez jouer suivant 3 degrés de difficulté. Une fois le soft fini, le bonus est de pouvoir recommencer depuis le début en mode Time Attack pour tester votre rapidité à compléter chaque niveau.
Italien Akumajō Dracula è stato progettato per sfruttare l'hardware Sharp X68000 con un motore di gioco aggiornato e più complesso rispetto all'originale Castlevania. Ciò ha consentito di riprogettare i livelli per accogliere ostacoli complessi e dinamici, nonché la creazione di nuovi livelli esclusivi per questa versione del gioco. Conserva tutti gli oggetti speciali e le armi secondarie dell'originale, oltre a introdurre il nuovo oggetto raro noto come erba, che può ricaricare la salute del giocatore in cambio di cuori. Oggetti nascosti che valgono punti e 1-up appaiono durante il gioco se il giocatore si abbassa o si trova in posizioni particolari. Inoltre, il gioco mantiene la funzione "looping" di Castlevania, in cui il gioco terrà traccia di quante fasi un giocatore ha superato in partite consecutive prima di raggiungere un Game Over.
