Allemand Die Handlung des Spiels findet zu der Zeit statt, als Super Mario und andere Hauptcharaktere, wie sein Bruder Luigi oder Bowser, noch Babys waren. Ein Storch soll die beiden Babys Mario und Luigi in einer Nacht zu ihren Eltern bringen. Plötzlich zischt Kamek, ein Magikoopa auf einem Hexenbesen, an ihn heran und schnappt sich Luigi. Mario fällt in die Tiefe auf den Rücken eines grünen Yoshis, der mit seinen Freunden beschließt, dem Kind zu helfen. Als Kamek zurück im Schloss seines Meisters Bowser ist, bemerkt er, dass eines der Babys fehlt. Er schickt seine Helfer, um auch Mario zu fangen. Mithilfe einer Karte, die neben Baby-Mario liegt, veranstalten die Yoshis einen Staffellauf durch sechs verschiedene Gegenden der Yoshi-Insel und kommen dann schließlich zu Bowsers Reich, um Baby-Luigi aus den Fängen Kameks zu befreien. Anglais The events of Yoshi's Island take place in the past. Mario was one of two twin brothers whom the evil Magikoopa Kamek tried to kidnap. Kamek kidnapped one of the brothers, but the second, Mario, fell down on Yoshi's island, where Yoshis live. The Yoshis decided to carry baby Mario and to bring him to his parents. But Kamek has sent troops and hordes of monsters to stop the Yoshis and to kidnap Mario.

In the game, players control the differently colored Yoshis most of the time. Mario is a helpless baby unless a star that makes him invincible is collected. As a Yoshi, players can swallow enemies to make eggs; these eggs are used for attacking other enemies and activating switches. Yoshi can do a flutter jump to clear large gaps that a regular jump can't. Players can also pound the ground for attacks and also flipping certain switches. Additionally, Yoshis can transform into vehicles, such as a helicopter, submarine, or a train. If Mario is dismounted from a Yoshi, a countdown will start, and Yoshi must catch the baby before Kamek's servants kidnap it. When Mario is invincible, he doesn't ride on Yoshi and is immune to attack. While invincible, Mario can run up certain walls.
Espagnol Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island es un juego programado y distribuido por Nintendo para Super Nintendo en 1995. La versión europea salió en octubre de ese mismo año. Como el título anterior, se trata de un excelente plataformas del mismo tiempo, pero con muchas modificaciones.
La primera de ellas es que en este título Mario no es el protagonista, sino el dinosaurio Yoshi. Además, en realidad no estamos hablando de una secuela, sino que nos remontamos varios años en el pasado, a cuando Mario no es más que un bebé. La mecánica consiste en que Yoshi transporte a Mario bebé sobre su lomo por los diferentes escenarios e impedir que el niño acabe en las garras de los malos. Cuando recibamos un golpe, Mario saldrá despedido en una especie de burbuja y tendremos un tiempo para recogerlo. Si se nos acaba el tiempo, se lo llevan y perdemos una vida.

Portugais Os eventos de Yoshi's Island acontecem no passado. Mario era um dos dois irmãos gêmeos que o malvado Magikoopa Kamek tentou sequestrar. Kamek sequestrou um dos irmãos, mas o segundo, Mario, caiu na ilha de Yoshi, onde Yoshis moram. Os Yoshis decidiram levar o bebê Mario e devolvê-lo para seus pais. Mas Kamek enviou tropas e hordas de monstros para parar os Yoshis e sequestrar Mario.
No jogo, os jogadores controlam Yoshis de cores diferentes na maior parte do tempo. Mario é um bebê indefeso a menos que uma estrela que o torne invencível seja coletada.
