Allemand Assassin's Creed III ist ein historisches Open-World-Action-Adventure mit Schwerpunkt auf Schleicheinlagen. Nach den Ereignissen des Vorgängerspiels begibt sich der Protagonist der Serie, Desmond Miles, mit seinem Vater William und seinen beiden Gefährten Rebecca und Shaun in eine Höhle in New York, wo sie einen Tempel gefunden haben, der von Mitgliedern der Ersten Zivilisation geschaffen wurde. Mithilfe des Eden-Apfels ist Desmond in der Lage, einen Großteil der Einrichtung zu aktivieren. Diese wurde gebaut, um die Erde vor einer Sonneneruption zu schützen, die den Planeten auszulöschen droht. Desmond findet sich in Animus wieder, der Virtual-Reality-Maschine, die es ihm ermöglicht, seine uralten Erinnerungen zu durchleben. Er wird als einer seiner Vorfahren mit englischen und indianischen Wurzeln in die Zeit der Amerikanischen Revolution versetzt: Connor Kenway.
