Anglais Drift Out sets the stage for players to challenge the world's best drivers in rally racing. Choosing from a selection of seven types of cars, the player does multiple races taking place in different countries around the world. In each race, the player drives on a direct route from start to finish (with directional prompts along the way) in the fastest possible time to qualify a ranking position in the World Rally Championship. Different from most top-down racing games at the time, the screen area rotates in accordance to the player's steering.

El jugador puede elegir entre siete tipos de coches y participar en múltiples carreras que se disputan en diferentes países del mundo. En cada carrera, el jugador conduce por una ruta directa desde el principio hasta el final (con indicaciones direccionales a lo largo del camino) en el tiempo más rápido posible para clasificarse para un puesto en el Campeonato Mundial de Rally. A diferencia de la mayoría de los juegos de carreras de arriba hacia abajo de la época, el área de la pantalla gira de acuerdo con la dirección del jugador.
