Mit einer miteinander verwobenen Handlung wird die Geschichte aus der Perspektive zweier rivalisierender Gruppen erzählt, die den Schuldigen hinter einer Katastrophe aufdecken wollen, durch die Digimon auf der ganzen Welt zu Digi-Eiern zurückentwickelt werden. Das Gameplay in Dawn und Dusk zeichnet sich durch ein rundenbasiertes Kampfsystem aus, bei dem die Spieler die 400 Digimon des Spiels strategisch positionieren, um die Kampfeffizienz zu maximieren.
