Allemand Zusammen mit seiner Nintendo-Mannschaft und neuen Teamkollegen aus der Final Fantasy-Reihe zieht der topfitte Klempner nun auf das glänzende Parkett des Basketball-Courts, um ordentlich Körbe zu werfen. Mit jeweils drei Spielern pro Team geht Mario schonungslos in die Offensive und zeigt uns in nie da gewesener Elegnaz und gekonnten Einzelaktionen, was es heißt, Kontrolle über den roten Ball zu haben. Doch in Führung zu liegen heißt noch lange nicht, zu gewinnen: Denn gerade aus der Defensive heraus lässt sich der Gegner hervorragend mit roten Schildkrötenpanzern und fiesen Bomben am Punktemachen hindern. Außerdem präsentiert in Mario Slam Basketball jeder Ballspieler ein paar gekonnte Moves, die dem Gegner mit ungeahnter Präzision die schönsten Angriffe vermasseln.

The title is built primarily around the game of ball, but also around the elements that made the plumber's fame, namely many small traps to avoid or place on the floor.

Los jugadores escogen los tres miembros de su equipo entre el amplio abanico de personajes del universo Mario y saltan al parquet. Poderes especiales como Conchas Rojas o Bob-ombas pueden cambiar el curso del encuentro al convertirse en monedas que afectan al marcador.
