Allemand Powermonger übernimmt das grundlegende Design und die Konzepte von Bullfrogs vorherigem Spiel Populous und stellt es in einen Kriegskontext. Das Spiel versetzt den Spieler in die Rolle eines enteigneten Kriegsherrn, der sich auf dem Weg zur Welteroberung seinen Weg durch 195 Gebiete bahnt. Mehrere andere Führer haben das gleiche Ziel.

Die Spielwelt besteht jetzt aus Polygonen, sodass die Ansicht mit größerer Freiheit gedreht und verschoben werden kann als bei Populous. Handel, Diplomatie, Erfindungen und Invasionen der verbrannten Erde spielen alle eine Schlüsselrolle dabei, wie der Spieler im Spiel vorankommt. Zwei-Spieler-Spiele über Modemverbindungen sind auf Computerversionen verfügbar.

Anglais Powermonger takes the basic design and concepts of Bullfrog's previous game Populous, and places it in a war context. The game cast the player as a dispossessed warlord plundering his way through 195 territories on the way to world conquest. Several other leaders have the same goal.

The gameworld is now made up of polygons, so the view can be rotated and moved with greater freedom than Populous. Trade, diplomacy, inventions, and scorched earth invasions all play a key role in how the player progressed through the game. Two-player games via modem links are available on computer versions.
Espagnol Power Monger toma prestada la estructura más orientada a la simulación de Populous y la adapta a un contexto bélico, y hace uso de polígonos rudimentarios en los escenarios rotativos. El objetivo es invadir, saquear y conquistar el territorio extendiendo su poder de influencia y aumentando su reputación y liderazgo, o incluso utilizando técnicas diplomáticas para lograr esos mismos fines.

Basicamente, Power Monger toma emprestada a estrutura de Populous, que era mais orientada à simulação e a adapta para um contexto bélico, além de fazer uso de rudimentares polígonos nos cenários, que podem ser rotacionados. O objetivo é invadir, pilhar e conquistar território estendendo seu poder de influência e aumentando sua reputação e liderança, ou mesmo, utilizar técnicas diplomáticas para atingir esses mesmos fins.
